QW physician recruitment program signs third doctor – Belleville Intelligencer

Just one month after securing its second family physician, the Quinte West physician recruitment and retention program has signed Dr. Alicia Schreader to a medical services agreement.
Originally from Pembroke, Dr. Schreader is currently in private family practice in Hamilton. She completed her B.A. at McMaster University and a M.S.W. at Carleton University, before obtaining her M.D. from McMaster. She also holds a MSc. in Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the UK. Dr. Schreader has extensive experience in Emergency Medicine as well as Family Practice and Mental Health.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison is very happy to welcome Dr. Schreader to Quinte West, citing the continued hard work and success of the recruitment committee in securing physicians for the community.
“Helping our residents to look after their health remains a priority for our city,” stated Harrison.
John Smylie, Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation board member and recruitment committee chairperson, said the announcement reflects the hard work of the community and the committee.
“The physician recruitment and retention committee is thrilled by this news and the amazing work being done for the communities of Quinte West and Brighton, by our recruitment coordinator Paula Mason,” he stated. “Paula has been working with Dr. Schreader since last fall to finalize this arrangement, and it is another successful recruitment from a growing base of contacts that is being built which will continue to help bring Doctors to our area.”
“I am very much looking forward to living and practicing in the beautiful community of Quinte West”, Dr. Schreader, who will be relocating to Quinte West with her husband, stated in a media release.
Dr. Schreader will start a new family practice at 64 Ontario St., in October and will be taking patients directly from the Health Care Connect wait list. Anyone without a family physician is reminded to register with HCC at 1-800-445-1822. Residents are asked to please note Dr. Schreader is not assuming the practice of the retiring Dr. K. Gerred; however, work continues on options for that practice.
The Quinte West physician recruitment program is a joint partnership between the City of Quinte West and The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation, with support from the Municipality of Brighton. Over the past year they have recruited three new family physicians to Quinte West, and continue to work with several other prospective candidates.
